Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass Very Early Production, January 1988 Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass Very Early Production, January 1988

Fender first opened the Custom Shop in mid 1987. Most of the first orders were for Stratocasters and Telecasters and came from pro players or Fender Endorsee’s. Here we have the earliest Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass I have ever come across. What a stunning instrument in Custom Color Lake Placid Blue body and matching head stock. This bass plays and sounds like no other with it’s Jazz bass body and custom ordered one piece maple neck. What a sound! The Body is dated January 1988 just months after the Custom Shop opening and the neck date is April of 1988. The original pots are carry over unit’s from the Original Fender Fullerton Factory and dated 1982 (the week is 4? being covered by solder, see photo). The neck was shaped by Herbie Gastelum who started at Fender in 1961 and was one of Fender’s oldest employees and was at Fender when the original Stack Knob Jazz bass’ were produced and is considered one of Fenders Great neck shapers. This bass has the earliest Fender Custom Shop Logo Stamp on both the neck and in the neck pocket. I was at the NAMM show in 2015 and was told by a Fender Custom Shop Rep at the Fender Custom Shop booth that COA’s started in mid 1988 after this bass was built. The bass comes with original tweed case with keys and all the original Case Candy shown in the photo’s. This bass was built when every step of a Custom Shop Instrument was built slow and had to be right unlike today were it’s all about keeping up with demand and knocking them out. This is truly a piece of early Fender Custom Shop history. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions. Insured Shipping to USA only. Local pickup is OK with pre approval. Buyer must have 5 positive feedbacks to bid. Thank you and best of luck.
