The Coronado Bass is one of Fender’s “modern” designs from the 1960s. If you have been floored by the cost of originals you’re going to like what you see. Since their 1966 introduction, Introduced in 1966, Coronados have long been revered as unique Fenders. The Modern Player edition features a thin semi-hollow maple body with an alder center block for enhanced punch and sustain. Stylishly bound F-holes lend a cool vintage vibe and enhance the instrument’s rich resonance, The Coronado is powered by a pair of Fideli’Tron humbuckers, capable of putting out a broad variety of amplified tones. The fast maple neck is topped with a fast bound rosewood fretboard and 21 properly dressed medium-jumbo frets. Other appointments include block inlays, bound “F” holes and a stylish trapeze style tailpieceThe original Coronados were true hollowbody instruments, cool, but making them less usable in modern situations. To address this, the Modern Player Coronado Bass adds an alder center block, for much improved sustain and superior feedback resistance when using high gain amplification. .So, while Fender’s Coronado Bass looks like its 1960s forefather, it is a updated and modern bass.This bass is a delight to play. The 30″ scale length and 1-5/8″ nut width make it a natural for players with smaller hands, or guitarists looking to double on bass. The neck is a very friendly “C” profile that sits in your hand perfectly. The action is good, free of any fret buzzing, and it balances comfortably, whether played seated.Just like in a sports car, it’s what’s “under the hood” that makes a difference. and Fender’s Fideli’Tron humbucking pickups have what it takes. These PUPS have high output, deep lows, and plenty of punch. They are capable of everything from Jaco style staccato cleans to stage-shaking grunge roar, and all without annoying 60 cycle hum. Controls are intuitive with a three-position switch plus individual volume and tone control for each pickup, giving you ready access to all of the Coronado’s sonic capabilities.This specific listing was not previously sold. It has no scratches, dings or blemishes at all. Clearly, it has needed no structural repairs and would be impossible to distinguish this bass form new examples on retail showroom floors. Our supplier’s team of Fender Certified techs have inspected, tested, and played this bass and found nothing to repair.
