Featured for sale is a gorgeous example of the artistry of the Los Angeles luthier Bernardo (Bernie) Chavez Rico: his late 60s-early 70s B. C. RICH B-38 Acoustic Dreadnaught GUITAR, finished in Natural Gloss.Brazilian Rosewood Sides, and a two-piece book-matched Brazilian Rosewood Back with Herringbone Stripe. The body is fully bound in three-layered binding, with Herringbone Purfling surrounding the Solid Spruce Top. The width of the upper bout is 11-3/8″, the lower bout 15-9/16″, and the depth of the body is 4″ at the Neck Joint, and 4-11/16″ at the white Abalone-Dot Tailpin. This fabulous instrument weighs in at 4.85 lbs., and it truly “Rings like a Bell.”The surface on the edge of the top of the lower bout has a slight “bubbled” effect on the finish… all visible under close scrutiny Actually more like finish checking. The guitar appears to be unchanged from original — no visible repairs or refrets… The string weights are 12-54, yielding wonderfully balanced and full top-to-bottom resonance and rich tone. The action is fast and the neck is straight with this string configuration. Big Deep Voice.
